The Dutch government takes an 8.5% stake in financial services company ING Group, investing 10 billion euros — more than $13 billion — following news that the company could post a loss of as much as 500 million euros for the third quarter. Friday in Amsterdam, ING shares fell over 27% on that news. The bank’s CEO says in a statement that “market conditions have changed drastically in recent weeks” and bank capital requirements should be raised. Speaking today on NBC’s “Meet The Press,” Colin Powell announces his endorsement of Barack Obama, calling him a “transformational figure” with “both style and substance.” He also admits “regret” for disappointing Senator John McCain.
